Basava & Lingayats : A classic example of  India's diversity ***************************** There is a  major opinion that Basaveshwara or Basava  is the founder of Lingayat sect . Most of the scholars specially fromKarnataka strongly assert this opinion. Jagadguru Mate Mahadevi, Kumarswamiji, Basavaraj K.R. were important among them.
